MEP Desk is a local-first engineering workspace built for building services engineers. It brings calculations, references, project context, and structured exports into a single tool — without requiring spreadsheets, cloud platforms, or fragmented workflows. Today we're opening free access to the full desktop application.
The problem
Building services engineers have been working with the same set of disconnected tools for years. Calculations live in spreadsheets that break when someone edits the wrong cell. Reference data is buried in PDFs that are difficult to search. Project assumptions sit in emails or meeting notes that nobody can find six months later. Exports require manual formatting before they're fit for a client document.
Each of these tasks is manageable in isolation, but together they create a workflow that's fragmented, error-prone, and slow. There's no single place where an engineer can run a calculation, see which assumptions were used, check whether those assumptions still hold, and produce a clean output — all within the same context.
What MEP Desk does
MEP Desk provides a structured workspace where engineering tasks stay connected. Calculations run with room context — when you select a room, the calculator suggests relevant inputs based on space type and project assumptions. The built-in reference library gives you searchable access to pipe sizes, thermal properties, ventilation rates, and other engineering data without leaving the application.
Projects are organised around rooms and assumptions. You set project-level defaults across engineering disciplines, and those defaults feed into your calculations automatically. When you export, you choose which categories to include and get a clean, structured output that traces every result back to its inputs.
How it's different
Three things set MEP Desk apart from existing tools:
- Local-first. Your data stays on your device. MEP Desk doesn't require a cloud backend for core workflow. Projects, references, and exports are stored locally.
- Source-verifiable. Every reference in the library cites its origin. Every calculation output shows which inputs were used and where they came from. Nothing is hidden.
- Engineer-led. MEP Desk is built by a practising building services engineer. Development is driven by real workflow needs, not feature checklists or investor metrics.
