Terms of Service
Last updated: February 2026
These terms govern your use of MEP Desk — the website at mepdesk.app, the desktop application, and the mobile companion app (Pocket MEP). By creating an account or using our services, you agree to these terms.
The service
MEP Desk is an engineering workspace for building services (MEP) professionals. It provides:
- Engineering calculators covering mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines
- Reference data extracted from UK building services standards
- Project and room management with calculation tracking
- Data export to CSV, JSON, and ZIP formats
- A library of free online tools (calculators, reference tables, standards tracker)
The desktop application runs locally in your web browser. Your engineering data is stored on your device by default. Professional subscribers may also have their data backed up to our cloud infrastructure — see "Data Storage and Backup" below.
Accounts
- You must provide a valid email address to create an account
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
- You must not share your account with others or create multiple accounts to circumvent tier limits
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms
Free and Professional tiers
MEP Desk offers two active tiers:
Free tier: includes limited access to projects (1 project, unlimited rooms), 10 calculators, read-only reference library, equipment library with recommendations, 3 watermarked exports per project, and global search. No payment required. No time limit.
Professional tier: includes unlimited projects and rooms, all calculators with auto-run, reference pinning and export, unlimited clean exports, and additional features. Requires a paid subscription.
We may adjust tier features over time. We will not remove core functionality from your current tier without reasonable notice.
Payments and subscriptions
- Professional subscriptions are billed monthly or annually via Stripe
- Current pricing is displayed on our pricing page at mepdesk.app/pricing.html
- Prices are in British Pounds (GBP) and include VAT where applicable
- Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel
- You can cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you retain Professional access until then
- We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods
- We reserve the right to change prices. If we increase your subscription price, we will notify you at least 30 days in advance. You may cancel before the new price takes effect
Beta pricing
Current pricing is designated as "beta pricing." Early subscribers who maintain an active subscription will keep their current rate for the lifetime of their subscription, even if prices increase for new subscribers.
Free tools (website)
The free tools on mepdesk.app (Standards Tracker, calculators, reference tables, etc.) are available without an account and without payment. We may modify, add, or remove free tools at any time.
Engineering disclaimer
MEP Desk is a productivity and reference tool. It is NOT a substitute for professional engineering judgement, competence, or responsibility.
Specifically:
Calculation results are provided as aids, not as certified outputs. You must verify all results against the relevant standards and your own engineering judgement before using them in any design, specification, or submission.
Reference data is extracted from published UK standards and guides. While we take care to ensure accuracy and cite sources, MEP Desk does not guarantee that reference data is complete, current, or error-free. Always check the original source document.
MEP Desk does not certify compliance with any Building Regulation, British Standard, CIBSE Guide, or other regulation. Compliance is the responsibility of the engineer.
We are not liable for any loss, damage, cost, or claim arising from reliance on data, calculations, or references provided by MEP Desk.
By using MEP Desk, you acknowledge that you are a qualified or supervised professional and that you accept full responsibility for how you use the outputs of this tool.
Your data
- Your engineering data (projects, calculations, references, notes) is stored locally on your device
- We do not have access to your local data and cannot recover it if lost
- You are responsible for backing up your own data (for example, using the export features)
- Account data (email, subscription tier) is stored on our servers — see our Privacy Policy for details
- You retain full ownership of any data you create using MEP Desk
Data Storage and Backup
Free Plan: All data is stored locally on your device using browser storage. MEP Desk does not store, transmit, or have access to your project data. You are responsible for backing up your data using the Export feature. MEP Desk is not liable for data loss caused by browser data clearing, device failure, or any other local storage issue.
Professional Plan: In addition to local storage, your project data is automatically backed up to MEP Desk cloud infrastructure. This backup is provided as a convenience feature and is encrypted in transit and at rest. While we take reasonable measures to protect your cloud data, MEP Desk is not liable for data loss. We recommend maintaining local exports as an additional backup.
Data Ownership: You own all data you create in MEP Desk. We do not claim any rights to your project data, calculations, or other content.
Account Deletion: Upon account deletion or subscription cancellation, cloud backup data is retained for 90 days then permanently deleted. You may export your data at any time before this period expires.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from MEP Desk (beyond what is visible in the browser)
- Use MEP Desk to build a competing product by systematically extracting reference data
- Share your Professional account credentials with others
- Attempt to circumvent tier limits or payment systems
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
Intellectual property
- MEP Desk (the software, website, brand, and original content) is the intellectual property of the operator
- Reference data within MEP Desk is derived from published UK standards. We do not claim ownership of the underlying standards data — we claim ownership of our specific presentation, extraction, and tooling of that data
- You retain ownership of your own engineering data created within MEP Desk
Availability and changes
- We aim to keep MEP Desk available and functional, but we do not guarantee 100% uptime
- We may update, modify, or discontinue features with reasonable notice
- The free tier may be modified or discontinued, though we will provide reasonable notice before making significant reductions
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- MEP Desk is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of MEP Desk
- Our total liability for any claim related to MEP Desk is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim
- Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect changes. Continued use of MEP Desk after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. For material changes, we will notify you via email or a notice on the website.
